The remains of the Avery Brundage Estate of Montecito with its gardens and fine construction from the 1920s were re-adapted for residential use after going to seed for 30 years in the wake of a major fire in 1964. The architect has restored the axial layout of the original gardens, reclaimed a severely deteriorated garden terrace structure and turned it into a private home, created a one bedroom studio cottage out of a ramshackle shed on the property, and last but not least cleared all the zoning violations with the County of Santa Barbara. He maintained the classical charm of the original work and put it into a park-like setting that hearkens back to the best of the Gatsby estate era.
